Former Allied Health Science (AHS) student at the Laurel County Schools Center for Innovation (CFI) is serving his community as a First Responder. Trevor Overbay, South Laurel High School-Class of 2020, participated in the three-year education and training program at the CFI, where he completed courses in Principles of Health Science, Medical Terminology, Emergency Procedures, Emergency Medical Services, as well a Work-Based Learning placement with a local healthcare employer during his senior year.
Trevor has been working in the area of fire and rescue services for the last seven years, with two of those years serving as a volunteer with the Laurel County Fire Department. “Before making a career decision, I attended the CFI. I knew at a young age I wanted to serve in the healthcare environment, but was still unsure of what I wanted to do, but the programs at the CFI helped to clarify my interests and set my goals,” said Overbay. “We are so very proud of Trevor and his career decision to serve his community as a first responder,” remarked Chastity Vandeventer, MSN, RN, faculty member at CFI.
“With the help of the CFI and the experience with the Laurel County Fire Department, I decided to take up a career in fire and rescue services,” indicated Overbay.
Mr. Overbay explained that he is now advancing his knowledge and skills outside of the traditional fire department services to earn his Adventure Divers Certification. Once he completes the additional training and classes, he plans to become a Rescue Diver.
“Trevor was an exceptional student at the CFI and is serving in the professional role as a community first responder and emerging EMS leader,” remarked James M. Davis, CFI Principal.
