The Laurel County Schools Center for Innovation (CFI) and Somerset Community College (SCC) convened a Health Science Program showcase on December 8, 2022, to increase access and opportunity for students to learn more about what career pathways were available to continue their postsecondary education.
Dr. Ron Meade, Dean of Health Sciences at SCC, and Dr. James M. Davis, Principal at CFI, discussed the need and importance of collaboration and helping students to know more about the diverse career paths in the healthcare professions and set the conference in motion.
“SCC is a significant provider of education and training in the health sciences and prepares students from all over the region to pursue great careers in healthcare,” said Dr. Meade. “We are pleased to have representatives from multiple program areas sharing information and leading conversations with our students about opportunities in their respective fields,” remarked Dr. Davis.
Students participated in conference workshops in the following areas: Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technology, Medical Lab Technology, Emergency Medical Services-Paramedic, Radiography, Respiratory Care, Surgical Technology, and Medical Information Technology.
Admissions Advisors were also at the conference to speak directly with students and help them to #KnowHowToGo about applications, financial aid, and scholarship processes at SCC.
